Two Tuscan gems in a single day, perfect for those seeking a more relaxed experience compared to the bustle of Florence.
From the port of Carrara, among the Apuane Alps and its famous marble quarries, we start with Lucca, the city with its perfectly preserved Renaissance walls. You can walk or rent a bicycle along the walls, visit Piazza dell'Anfiteatro — an ancient Roman arena transformed into a unique oval piazza — and admire the Romanesque churches of the historic center.
After lunch in Lucca (which we strongly recommend: Lucchese cuisine is among the best in Tuscany), we continue to Pisa for a visit to Piazza dei Miracoli. You will have time for the iconic photo with the Leaning Tower and to explore the Baptistery with its extraordinary acoustics.
The return to Carrara port crosses the Tuscan countryside and coast, at the foot of the Apuane Alps.

Practical notes
Bicycle rental on Lucca's city walls is available (approx. €5, optional). Lucca's cuisine is excellent — try the 'tordello' pasta or spelt soup.
